Feedback from those who have attended the '7s' event has been excellent. This considered the signficance of this number in the 7 days of creation in terms of the 7 stages of development of the human spirit, the notes of the musical scale, the 7 colours of the rainbow and the chakra energy points, amongst other things. The weekend also included music making with professional musicians and a wonderful 4 course dinner on the Saturday night with piano accompaniment. Some of the highlights people recorded at the end of the weekend were:
Comments on the weekend by another participant:
"I recently attended Purley Chase for the ‘Seven Musical Notes, seven colours,
creation and you’. This was the second event I have attended at Purley Chase and
did not know what to expect at all. On arrival I was greeted by David and Anne
Gaffney, who I found extremely warm and genuine. I was shown my room and
everyone was given time to unpack and explore their surroundings before the
evening meal. There was tea, coffee, scones and biscuits (home made - mmmm) on
offer during the whole weekend.
Supper was then served, which was up to
Anne’s excellent culinary skills, and then a short introduction to the weekend
by David. We were introduced to Mark, the musician, who had composed and
produced the lyrics for a musical piece especially for the weekend. Everyone
introduced themselves and we all chose something from the table in the hallway
and got into a discussion with 3 other people, who we didn’t know, and talked
about the item we had chosen from the table. It was a wonderful way to start
everyone talking to different people and getting to know a little about them.
On the Saturday Mark introduced us to the music which we were to be
singing about the seven days of creation and gave everyone a word on a piece of
paper which would represent life before creation (an interesting thought- mine
was ‘barren’) and we all had to go into four groups and make a noise as the word
on the paper represented itself to each of us (but in a group). These group
sounds were then recorded. It was fantastic, the actual sound that came through,
and I think we were all shocked. Then we started singing and it made it even
more moving.
On the Saturday evening there was a wonderful meal, to
which the ladies had to wear a ‘posh frock’ and the men ‘ties’. It made the
evening even more special because of the fact that too few times these days
people get dressed up for an occasion. The food was excellent, as usual, and
whilst we were eating Mark entertained us on the baby grand piano and after the
meal we were entertained by David and Anne’s son playing the guitar and we had
jokes and also poetry. The evening made me think how extremely lucky I was to be
part of this weekend not only because of the food and entertainment but also
because of the wonderful company, the surroundings, the accommodation and the
wonderful spiritual feeling I was getting from the weekend.
There was
also a group activity of everyone choosing a favourite phrase, which are on the
trees at Purley Chase, and say what it meant to us, individually, and then
discuss it as a group. It was surprising how each phrase could mean something
different to each person in the group and was very enlightening.
We
finished the weekend with a service by David, which I found very moving. The
whole weekend had been a success from start to finish and I said that I felt
honoured to have been a part of it. The only downfall of the weekend was saying
goodbye to the wonderful people I had met. Many thanks once
again."
